Lady Gaga has been very supportive of Kesha since the singer accused music producer, Dr. Luke of drugging and raping her. She showed some of her support by tweeting a picture with Kesha with the caption, “Free Kesha.” Now she’s also fighting back against Dr. Luke in court.
The music producer is still in the middle of his defamation lawsuit against Kesha. His latest move is to subpoena Lady Gaga for a deposition in the case, according to Vanity Fair.
“Dr. Luke’s counsel served a subpoena on Lady Gaga because she has relevant information regarding, among other things, false statements about Dr. Luke made to her by Kesha,” the producer’s lawyer reportedly said on July 29. “This motion has become necessary because Dr. Luke’s counsel has not been able to obtain, despite repeated request, a deposition date from Lady Gaga.”
This isn’t the producer’s first attempt to get Lady Gaga involved in the case. He previously subpoenaed her for her text messages with Kesha. The pop star complied but redacted a lot of the portions of the text messages. “One of the four pages was redacted in its entirety,” claimed Jeffrey Movit, a lawyer representing Dr. Luke. He continued saying she “has refused to remove the redactions, claiming that the redacted materials are irrelevant and address unspecified ‘private matters.'”
He also has been trying to get Lady Gaga to sit for a deposition since March, according to Fox News but she isn’t giving up without a fight. “As Lady Gaga‘s legal team will present to the court, she has provided all of the relevant information in her possession and is at most an ancillary witness in this process,” a representative for Lady Gaga told Variety. “Dr. Luke’s team is attempting to manipulate the truth and draw press attention to their case by exaggerating Lady Gaga‘s role and falsely accusing her of dodging reasonable requests.”
